The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and your physical therapist (PT) are active in lobbying Congress to make sure that your services remain covered under programs like Medicare. It is important that you, our patients, also let your voices be heard!

Due to lack of congressional action, physical therapy services are currently under a $1860 Medicare Therapy Cap. The therapy caps are in effect without the exceptions process beginning on January 1, 2010. The U.S. House health care reform bill (H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act) contains a 2-yr extension of the exceptions process for 2010 and 2011 and the U.S. Senate health care reform bill (H.R. 3590, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act) contains a 1 year extension of the exceptions process. APTA supports the House's 2 year extension in health care reform and will continue to lobby the parties involved in the negotiations for this provision. In addition, APTA will seek a permanent repeal to the therapy cap as part of any permanent policy change to the physician fee schedule update. The therapy caps represent a beneficiary cut in benefits and must be addressed both in health care reform and in efforts to permanently reform flawed Medicare policies separate from health care reform.

Haiti Donations - Thanks to those of you who donated some spare change into our collection sites. We raised almost $20 in change. It was delivered to the American Red Cross this week. South Aiken Physical Therapy and it's staff donated $150 to the Haiti Relief Efforts.
