SPECIAL CREDENTIALS/CLINICAL SPECIALTY: Mary has over 27 years of experience as a licensed physical therapist and has worked in a variety of settings, including as a clinical consultant & educator. She has been trained in the works of Robin McKenzie, Brian Mulligan & Gray Cook among others. Mary has been lucky enough to formally work with the Canadian Olympic Waterski Team, as well as many high school and college athletes. In addition to sports rehab, her biggest passion is helping people remain strong and active as they age – whether as a mature athlete, a fitness enthusiast or an active senior. Although she often uses manual therapy techniques, she has specialized in functional movement & exercise, earning many hands-on specialist credentials along the way. Mary believes everyone should work towards adequate mobility, stability & strength to allow them to be capable & resilient to life’s demands. HOBBIES: With her daughter now safely off to college (Go Gators!), Mary enjoys time in her home gym doing kettlebell training, relaxing watching Netflix, listening to podcasts or reading. She & her husband enjoy travel, getting outside (especially in Utah) and seeking out new restaurants. A former indoor volleyball coach & beach volleyball competitor throughout Florida, she is looking forward to finding & joining a local volleyball community to continue playing in the Aiken area.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT BEING A PT: I love that I can connect with people to help them understand their condition and empower them to make a positive change. Although we cannot always “fix” things 100%, we can help make a difference, allowing people to feel better and do more.

therapy after injuring her shoulder as an athlete in high school. Her
first experience with having physical therapy had such a positive effect
on her life that she wanted to be able to help others in the same way
that she had been helped. During her time as a student, Lindsey gained

neuro, pediatrics, and spent time in the acute care setting rehabbing

What do I like MOST about working at South Aiken Physical Therapy: Ever since I was a small child, I have been an athlete. So naturally there have been a few injuries that ended with me going through physical therapy. Going through physical therapy and coming back to a sport better than I was before is what inspired me to become a physical therapist. Working at South Aiken PT is assuring me more and more that I chose the right path. The fun work environment, caring people and dedicated team members make South Aiken PT a great place to work and a comfortable environment to heal and improve patients’ overall health.

What do you like about being a personal trainer? I enjoy meeting new people and helping them reach their physical activity goals through what I know and learn. A lot of people are unaware of how essential exercise is and how it can change your life for the better. I believe it is my purpose to help bring about change in that aspect.
Special Credentials: Tammy has over 17yrs. experience in the medical field. Her experience includes Family medicine, wound care, infectious diseases, and long-term home health aid. Tammy studied at Aiken Technical College for Phlebotomy and Medical Terminology with CPR and First aid.
Education: Graduated from Aiken Technical College in 2000 as a Licensed Phlebotomist, graduated in 2017 from Pinnacle Career Institute as a Pharmacy Technician.
Hobbies: Tammy enjoys spending time with her family. She loves fishing with her husband and working on their property. Tammy also likes playing video games with her son, going shopping with her daughter, and playing with her Grandson Gabriel. Tammy also volunteers with her mom. Her family is the most important part of her life next to God.

Special Credentials/Clinical Specialty: Her passion is Spine Health and Balance Health. In treating patients, she draws upon current research to incorporate scientifically validated methods into the daily practice. She has studied the works of Robin Mckenzie, Brian Mulligan, Steven Dischiavi, and some osteopathic approaches for spine problems. In addition, Hetal has continued to enrich her clinical skills and knowledge by attending courses with a specific focus on spine, hip, knee, shoulder, and chronic pain. Kaitlyn first developed an interest in PT after watching her younger cousin with Cerebral Palsy go through many stents of physical therapy after major surgeries or events. After seeing the life changing benefits of this, Kaitlyn decided to major in Exercise Science to further explore the field, where she took courses related to anatomy, muscular activity and biomechanics. Now, as a fresh college grad, she aims to gain further exposure to the field by working in a more hands-on manner with patients and clinicians.

I participated in many sports, including softball, track, and basketball, where I held a leadership position as team captain. Being involved and physically active really intrigued me into getting into physical therapy. I am also AED certified and CPR certified.
Education: graduated from North Augusta High School with honors. I am currently enrolled at USC Aiken majoring in exercise science, with a minor in psychology. I aspire to go to PT school and afterwards specialize in peds.

Special Credentials/Clinical Specialty: Danielle’s passion for Physical Therapy began working with wounded warriors as a medical clerk at the United States Army Institute for Surgical Research Burn Center. She was inspired by the physical therapists helping Soldiers recover from traumatic injuries. Danielle attended the University of Kansas (KU) for her Bachelor’s in Exercise Science. While at KU she raced colligate level cycling in her free time. Danielle’s clinical experience includes, orthopedics, acute sports injury, pediatrics, work related injuries, stroke rehab, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputee care, cerebral palsy, and post-op cardiovascular surgery. She is interested in manual therapy and orthopedic care. Having sustained many sport related injuries she is also interested in return to sport for endurance athletes, dancers, and musicians.

What do you like most about being a PT?
I enjoy helping people and building lasting relationships with my patients. I want to restore function and independence in people’s life by optimizing movement and decreasing pain. I enjoy lifelong learning and look forward to specializing as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist. A great part of physical therapy is the fun and passion in the profession. Special credentials/clinical: Michelle has 10 years experience in a chiropractic office. She specializes in deep tissue massage, but has training in Swedish (classic) sports massage and geriatric massage. She can tailor her techniques to fit the clients needs and wants.

What do you like most about being a massage therapist: I love helping people relax, unwind, and realize that they don’t have to live in pain! I love to see them return and say they are pain free or they show me the mobility increase the gained since last session! I love a body with a good challenge!

What do I enjoy most about South Aiken Physical Therapy and Wellness?
Helping improve patient’s health and overall well-being through guidance, education, and support is what I enjoy most about the profession of Exercise Science. I enjoy getting to know my patients, while being about of their exercise journey. Being a part of the South Aiken Physical Therapy and Wellness team allows me to work alongside individuals who possess a great deal of expertise and enthusiasm.
Credentials: Channing has over 15 years experience teaching Pilates. She owned her own Pilates-Massage studio in Pennsylvania where with her business partner taught group mat, equipment sessions, workshops as well as maintained a loyal following and steady client base. Channing has worked with clients from all walks of life including pre and post surgical, MS, nerve dysfunction, arthritis, joint replacement, runners, equestrians, golfers and everyone in between. She has trained and competed in figure competitions and received her pro card. Channing enjoys working and sharing her knowledge of the body and continues learning and training. Along with teaching Pilates she also hold certifications in Barre Pilates, TRX, AIS(Active Isolated Stretching) and just completed Neurological Conditions Certification focusing on MS and Parkinson’s and brain plasticity.

She has worked with orthopedic post-rehabilitation clients as well as those living with chronic conditions such as arthritis, high blood pressure, COPD, and fibromyalgia. Carolyn also has a passion to help those seeking to make a permanent lifestyle change and live healthy, active and pain free lives. Carolyn is a certified personal trainer with W.I.T.S. (World Instructor Training Schools) receiving her education and field experience through Midlands Technical College. Special Credentials/Clinical Specialty: Katie developed an interest in sports medicine during her own experiences with physical therapy during athletics in high school. She went on to Berry College, where she worked as a student assistant athletic trainer with the Women’s Lacrosse and Soccer teams. While completing her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Augusta University, she completed a wide range of clinical rotations including orthopedics, acute care trauma, long-term rehab, developmental pediatrics, and pediatric sports medicine. She has completed Maitland’s Essential Peripheral course and 3DMAPS functional movement assessment training and incorporates these principles into her treatments. Katie has a particular interested in working with pediatric patients & athletes, post-surgical rehabilitation, and conditions of the lower extremities.

Hobbies: Spending time with friends and family, exercising, playing/watching sports (Go Vols!), reading good books, and traveling, whether it be out of country for a mission trip or a spontaneous road trip with friends or family!
What do you like most about being a physical therapist: I love being able to get to know patients, hear their stories and walk alongside them during their journey through the rehabilitation process. I enjoy the problem-solving aspect of being a therapist and getting to help patients learn to use exercise and body awareness to decrease their pain and improve their mobility and function.
Special Credentials: She is Filipino and Chinese, but she was born and raised in the Philippines. Justine and her family moved to Aiken in December 2006, and she can speak Tagalog and English. She always enjoyed helping others ever since she was little, but never knew how. She always had some curiosity about therapy and decided to observe as a student at SAPT. This is when she realized that she wanted to pursue physical therapy. Justine loved interacting with the patients, able to help rehabilitate them, and educate them about their health.
Education: Graduated from South Aiken High School in 2013 with honors. Graduated from USCA with Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Science – Allied Health concentration with Honors Cum Laude.
Hobbies: She loves spending time with her friends and family, listening to music and traveling. She is currently interested in learning to read and speak other languages and learning about other cultures in her spare time. She also loves to watch women’s soccer, especially the US Women’s Soccer Team.
What you like MOST about working at South Aiken Physical Therapy: I absolutely love working at SAPT because everyone is very nice, helpful, friendly and understanding. The working environment is always comfortable and professional. I love working with people who take their jobs to heart and always put their patients first. Lastly, I love interacting with our amazing patients and watching their quality of life improve.
Special Credentials: Melissa has participated and judged cheerleading and dance. She cheered and danced through her high school career. She has worked as a Nationally Certified Cheerleading Judge over the years as well as worked many cheerleading and dance competitions. As a cheerleader, Melissa fractured her heel. She has also had previous back and hip problems. She did physical therapy for such injuries in the past. Two years ago, she did physical therapy again to strengthen her core to help improve her back and hip. She believes it changed her life and well-being significantly. She no longer suffers with the same pain and her mobility has improved magnificently. After experiencing the power of physical therapy herself, she wanted to work first hand with helping patients and improving their quality of life. Melissa has also worked in a variety of health fields. Before joining our team, she worked several years for an Oral Surgeon in Charleston, SC. She received her Certified Coding Associate Certificate (CCA) in 2011.
Education: Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology and a Minor in Elementary Education from the University of South Carolina Associate Degree in Healthcare Reimbursement from Virginia College.
Hobbies: Melissa enjoys working cheerleading competitions, dancing, spending time with her family and friends, going to the beach or lake, riding horses and four-wheelers. Her three dogs are the light of her life. She loves college football season and she especially enjoys watching her favorite team, The Gamecocks play!

Special Credentials: Cady has participated and coached in many different sports, such as basketball, soccer and cheer leading. While cheer leading, she sustained a major injury to her ankle that lead to her having two ankle surgeries. From this, she also went through several years of physical therapy. Cady had her physical therapy at South Aiken Physical Therapy intermittently for over four years. Over this period of time, Cady became fascinated with physical therapy by seeing first hand what she could herself overcome.
Education: Cady graduated from South Aiken High School in 2015. She is now an honors student at USC-Aiken majoring in Sports Science with a strong desire to be a physical therapist.
Hobbies: Cady enjoys coaching cheerleading for preschool and elementary children. She spends her spare time at Cedar Creek Church helping with young kids. Cady is a die hard Carolina Gamecock fan and never misses watching a football game!

Special credentials:Hunter has spent many years in customer service and enjoys interacting with and assisting others. She has experience in various medical office settings. Hunter graduated at the top of her class as a high honors student while attending UMA getting her degree.
Education: Graduate of Ultimate Medical Academy with an associates degree in human services and health sciences with a focal point of medical administrative assisting.
Hobbies: Hunter enjoys spending time with her two kids and fiancé. They all spend time outdoors as much as they can and explore every chance they get. Hunter also loves football Sunday’s with her family.

Special Credentials: Karen spent 16 years as a stay at home mom before going to work at South Aiken Physical Therapy. Before that, she spent six years as a medical records manager at an outpatient physical therapy facility. While staying home with her kids, Karen owned and operated a home-based travel agency specializing in family vacations.
Education: Karen graduated from Aiken High School and attended Clemson University. Karen also received a travel agent certification from AAA in Charlotte, NC.
Hobbies: Karen enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, Connor, 16, and Eva, 13. She loves to travel with her family, and one of her favorite places to visit is the beach. Karen loves everything Disney, and she and her family have been to Disney countless times. Karen loves to read and shop, as well as plan her next trip to Disney. One of Karen’s biggest joys is watching her son play golf for South Aiken High School and her daughter dance for Burns Dance Studio with the performing company. On Saturdays, Karen loves to cheer for her favorite football team, the Clemson Tigers.

Education: Mitzi graduated from North Charleston High School in 1987 and in 1993 graduated from Aiken Technical College with a certificate of Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Aide.
Hobbies: Aside from work, Mitzi enjoys spending time with her new husband. They love to travel and find different waterfalls and streams in their outdoor adventures. Mitzi and her husband are both actively involved in their church. They sing in the choir and teach Sunday school classes. Mitzi enjoys music, counted cross stitch, reading and being involved with their four children. She also loves to collect rocks as a keepsake of places she’s visited.
What I like MOST about working at South Aiken Physical Therapy: I am excited and blessed to be part of a wonderful group of people. The staff are dedicated to their work and have compassionate hearts for each person who come in through their door. They all help strive to get the patients back to maintaining their lifestyles. Hobbies: Before coming on board here, she taught at a local private school for two years. She is very happily married and has three energetic children who keep her very busy. Although Alicia loves her job here at SAPT, her favorite job is being a mother. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and shopping.
What do you like most about being an Administrative Assistant: I love the atmosphere of team work. Everyone works together to accomplish one goal, helping our patients in the healing process. We also have the best patients. Everyone is so kind and loving every time they come to therapy. Having such a wonderful place to come to work is truly a blessing and makes the day very enjoyable!
Special Credentials: Rebecca has lived in Aiken most of her life and grew up knowing she wanted to help others, but not sure how. While earning her degree at USC Aiken, she worked in several community programs in the school. The cardiac and seniors wellness program were the main programs that gained her interest. Her passion grew as she was able to help rehabilitate people and educate them about their health. During the time she was involved in these programs, several people talked to her about working at South Aiken Physical Therapy. They knew before she did that working here would be in her best interest.

Hobbies: Outside of work, Rebecca has many different hobbies. She enjoys writing songs on the piano, shopping, watching movies and trying new types of food. Recently she and her husband had a baby girl, her name is Charlotte. They are now enjoying the new experiences of parenthood.

Special Credentials: DeeAlice Moton has had more than 10 years of experience as a licensed massage therapist. She is also a licensed esthertican, aromatherapist and Reiki practitioner. She is a member of The Aromatherapy Alliance and The National Association for the Holistic Aromatherapy. She has had over 1,200 hours of clinical training.
Education: DeeAlice received her Esthetics license in 2014 from the South Eastern Esthetics Institute in Columbia, SC. She received her Massage Therapy certificate from the Augusta School of Massage.
Hobbies: DeeAlice enjoys being with her family and studying natural alternatives for her clients and to enhance her skills.
What do you like most about being a massage therapist: I believe in the power of touch and emitting positive energy in my surroundings. I aspire to touch each of my clients with a ray of good energy, knowledge and understand their needs. My desire is to provide each person with individual guidance to their journey of wellness.
Special Credentials: Jeff has had seven years of experience in a chiropractor’s office and fifteen years of experience in a pain management office. His background in these settings has given him a skill-set to provide many different types of massages depending on his client’s needs.
Education: Jeff is a 1994 graduate of the Academy of Somatic Healing Arts in Atlanta, GA. He achieved three certifications while attending ASHA; Neuromuscular Re-education, Swedish Massage and Clinical Sports Massage.
Hobbies: Jeff enjoys boating and camping with his family.
What do you like most about being a massage therapist: Having been in the massage field for over twenty years, seeing a patient overcome pain and achieve maximum recovery/flexibility is one of the highlights of my job and one of my greatest joys. Working as a part of a dedicated, health and wellness team is of great importance to me.
Special Credentials: Whitney has five years of personal training experience. Her past experience includes working in cardiac rehab for two years as an Exercise Specialist and working full-time as an Exercise Specialist II at McLeod Health and Fitness Center in Florence, SC for two years. She is level 1 EIM (Exercise is Medicine) credentialed from ACSM, which means she can work with populations at-risk for developing specific chronic diseases such as hypertension. She is also certified in CPR and first aid.
Education: Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Science with a concentration in Allied Health from USCA
Hobbies: In her free time, Whitney enjoys spending time with her family and reading books. She also enjoys running in 5k races to benefit special causes.
What do you like most about working at South Aiken Physical Therapy: I would say the company’s overall reputation drew me in. I have heard individuals in the community who have spoken enthusiastically about the atmosphere of friendliness, talent, and professionalism. After beginning working here, I couldn’t agree more. Hobbies: She was born and raised in Edgefield County. She loves spending time with her sweet and fun family. She has been married to her loving husband since May 2004 and they have 2 very loved and spoiled doggies. What do you like most about being an Office Manager: We have the best staff anyone could dream of! SAPT is my second family. I love that every day at work is different and that we have so many dedicated and loyal patients who choose to use us again and again for their rehab needs. My favorite part of the job is the patient interaction and helping them in any way I can. It is such a rewarding feeling to help the public even it’s something as simple as adjusting their schedule or more complex such as solving a billing issue. I also love learning about the patient’s families and the close bond we often develop with them. I love to watch the patients as they set out on their journey to recovery. The difference in them from their initial visit to discharge is quite astonishing and brings a smile to my face. Our staff is one of a kind and the best at what they do!
Special Credentials/Clinical Specialty: Maitland Certified in Cervical, Thoracic and Lumbar Spine, Medbridge Certification of Orthopaedic Excellence: The Spine. Asia’s interest in orthopaedic conditions has driven her to study under the Maitland theory. She enjoys treating patients with spine dysfunctions and those in need of postoperative rehab specifically following joint replacement. She also has a strong interest in balance training for individuals with complex medical histories. She likes to educate patients about balance risks and ways to prevent falls. She believes in treating “the whole body” to restore proper movement and improve quality of life. Her upcoming goals are, Clinical Instructor Certification through APTA, learning functional manual therapy to improve patient outcomes and expand knowledge to treat advanced balance training in patients with gait instability due to neurological conditions.

What do you like most about being a PTA: Here at SAPT we focus on one-on-one care for every patient. We all strive to deliver the utmost care to help patients return to full function. I enjoy getting to know my patients and be part of their journey towards recovery. We have a great team of therapists, office staff and Healthfit trainers that are welcoming, professional and share the same passion to heal.
Special Credentials/Clinical Specialty: Travis received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2014 and developed a passion for manual physical therapy while in school. He has chosen to continue his education with The Institute of Physical Art under the work of Greg and Vicky Johnson. He has now taken 10 continuing education weekend courses over the past three years. He plans to sit for a rigorous week long testing process to become a Certified Functional Manual Therapist in August 2020. He has also studied joint mobilization under the work of Australian Physiotherapist Jeffrey Maitland and Neurodynamics under the work of Bob Elvey. Through his coursework and past mentoring, he has developed an interest in treating patients with acute or chronic pain throughout the spine. He also seeks to build a caseload of athletes looking to enhance their ability to perform in their sport through hands-on manual therapy techniques, core facilitation, and functional training.

Hobbies: Outside of treating patients, Travis enjoys exercising, college football and travelling with his wife. He recently married, relocated to Aiken, and is excited to become a part of the community.
What do you like most about being a physical therapist: Physical therapy is one of the few healthcare professions where you actually spend a significant amount of time with your patients. I enjoy getting to know my patients and love the problem-solving component of my job. I am excited to join the South Aiken PT team to help the community members of Aiken whether its decreasing pain, improving mobility, facilitating proper movement patterns, educating my patients or giving them the tools to help heal themselves.
Special Credentials/Clinical Specialty: Barbara has over 16 years of experience in a variety of settings. Her primary interest and experience is in outpatient orthopedic physical therapy.
Barbara has most recently focused continuing her education in manual therapy for the neck and knee, as well as postural stabilization activities for the neck and shoulder.
She is the recipient of two US. Army Achievement Medals in Civilian Service, in 2012 and 2014.

Hobbies: Barbara likes to travel in her RV with her husband and two dogs as well as socializing with her friends. She also enjoys spending time with her grand children, staying healthy by working out and helping others feel better through nutritional education.
What do you like most about being a physical therapist: It’s so rewarding to come to work every day and be a part of such an amazing team of Physical Therapists. S.A.P.T. is truly the most compassionate and talented group I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with in almost 17 years.
Special Credentials/Clinical Specialty: Ryan has been a practicing Physical Therapist for over 11 years with a background in a variety of settings including inpatient, pediatrics, wound care and outpatient therapy. She has treated a wide variety of orthopedic patients with both surgical and non-surgical conditions, as well as sports injuries. She has a special interest in treating those suffering with balance impairments and enjoys helping those who struggle with this prevalent problem. Her recent clinical education includes Maitland based spine and extremity evaluation and treatment strategies. She has undergone vestibular training in the past and is currently pursuing further continuing education to best serve those with balance impairments.

Hobbies:When she is not working, she loves spending time with her two children, Olivia (age 6), and Levi (age 3). Ryan states about her children, “They light up my life, keep me on my toes and keep me busy. “ Her favorite family vacation spots are the beach, and traveling to new places. In her quiet time she loves to read a good book and finds playing the piano to be relaxing.
What do you like most about being a Physical Therapist: I love the whole process of seeing my patients tackle the rehab process with the guidance I can help give. I love to see the progress they make from start to finish. From feeling hopeless and discouraged to becoming independent again and going back to doing what they love and enjoy.
Special Credentials/Clinical Specialty: 2001 recipient of the South Carolina Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association’s Butch Buchanan Award for Clinical Excellence. 2008 recipient of the Medical College of Georgia’s School of Allied Health Science’s Fabulous 40 alumni -Darcy was chosen out of 7000 Graduates for this recognition for her professional accomplishments. Darcy’s background in sports and athletics along with her injuries sustained during her high school and junior college sports participation led her naturally to an interest in sports medicine. She spent many hours studying under the work of Kevin Wilk and Dr. James Andrews and other sports medicine greats during the early part of her career. She has successfully treated injuries from all age groups with sports related injuries including golf, tennis, basketball, gymnastics, soccer, dance and more. During early 2000s Darcy realized how much the spine and core played a role in the extremity injuries she treated. Since then she has studied the works of Diane Lee, Geoff Maitland, Robin McKenzie and even osteopathic treatment of spine and extremity injuries. She takes an eclectic approach to individualized treatment for all of her patients and at this point has a very strong interest in treatment of the thoracic, lumbar spine, pelvis, sacroiliac joint, hip and lower extremity overuse injuries. She has a very strong interest and many years experience and love postoperative rehabilitation, particularly of the spine and lower extremity.

Hobbies: When not in the clinic, you will likely find Darcy enjoying most anything outside. She enjoys working outside in her yard and around her home but most especially she enjoys weekends at the lake relaxing, boating and playing with her friends and doggies. She also enjoys working out and trying new recipes.
What do you like most about being a Physical Therapist: The relationship I form with my patient when I am helping her/him recover from what is often a life altering situation is something I really treasure. An even greater reward is watching the improvement in not only how she/he feels physically but also emotionally as normal life activity returns. South Aiken Physical Therapy makes the experience for me and my patients even greater as we are surrounded by fun, caring, compassionate and highly talented team members who make the recovery process for our patients and a day at work an enjoyable experience.
Special Credentials/Clinical Specialty: Jimmy Batte is a seasoned veteran with South Aiken Physical Therapy. He started out in athletic training / sports medicine before coming to the physical therapy side. He’s already been with South Aiken PT for over ten years now. He treats everything, but he tends to focus on rehabilitating shoulders and knees. He also works to rehabilitate athletes and addresses their sports performance during the process. He continues to learn and study the works of Dr. Kevin Wilk, Mike Reinold, PT and performance specialist, Mike Boyle, strength and condition specialist to name a few. He has rehabilitated patients for the infamous Dr. James Andrews. Completed training with University of Tennessee Sports Medicine branch.
Proficient with Athletic and Kinesio rehabilitative Taping.
Education: He is a graduate of Greenville Technical College with his ASPT. Recipient of Greenville’s Clinical Excellent Award 2006.
Hobbies: When not working, he throughly enjoys spending time with his family. They are members of First Baptist Church. Jimmy is an artist and dabbles in various mediums. He is also an avid home brewer.

Special Credentials/Clinical Specialty: Lisa has over 25 years experience as a Licensed Physical Therapist and has worked in a variety of settings. The majority of her experience as well as primary interest has been in orthopedic physical therapy. Lisa has pursued continuing education in sports medicine, spine, hip, shoulder, and knee. In addition to her educational pursuits in physical therapy, Lisa has been in consistent training as an equestrian. The balance, posture, and athleticism required to effectively ride an equine partner translates very well to teaching posture, balance, and mobility in everyday life. Lisa is currently scheduled for additional training/credentialing to be a part of the United States Equestrian Federation’s Physical Therapist Network. APTA member/Orthopedic section member

Hobbies: When not working as a physical therapist, Lisa is pursuing the health and well being of her daughter Katie who is an elementary school scholar, artist, and soccer player!! Lisa and her family came to Aiken seeking a great community to raise Katie in addition to a vibrant equestrian community. The extensive venues for competition and high level equestrian training available in Aiken have allowed Lisa to progress in her eventing pursuits. Eventing, is the triathlon of equestrian sports consisting dressage, stadium, and cross country jumping.
What do you like most about being a Physical Therapist: Physical therapy is a wonderful profession. We spend all day every day helping people! We are in constant pursuit of the skills required to help individuals achieve their functional goals. This is the best group of therapists that I have ever worked with in my 25 years working in a wide variety of settings!
Special Credentials/Clinical Specialty: Shelly has over 25 years of experience in physical therapy. Her experience includes outpatient orthopedics, acute injuries, long term care facilities, aquatic therapy, long-term/home health and wound care. She is an APTA credentialed clinical instructor for PTA interns. She has served in the past as a member for a PTA Advisory Board. Her clinical training internships were based in Ohio, Georgia, and South Carolina. She has experience in variety of areas of physical therapy including: acute care, aquatic therapy, home health care, long term care ,orthopaedic outpatient care, and wound care. She specializes and has an interest with post surgical and general orthopaedic conditions. Shelly has studied the works and attended lecture series of APTA recognized Physical Therapists like Kevin Wilk, Mark DeCarlo, Jennifer Bottomley, and Brian Hoke. She has experience in manual joint mobilization with both Kaltenborn and Maitland techniques. She attended lectures on wound care under world renown experts Joseph McCulloch and Luther Kloth. She has experience in Selective Functional Movement Assessment.
Education: She graduated from Shawnee State University in 1992 receiving her associate’s degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
Hobbies: Shelly has two daughters. She enjoys practicing yoga and delving into the history of the American Revolution. She is big fan of the NHL team Columbus Blue Jackets and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Special Credentials/Clinical Specialty: Sean grew up in Brisbane, Australia and worked there for several years after graduating college in 1989. He was recruited to Southwest Florida in 1993 and then relocated with his family to Aiken, SC in 1999, working in outpatient Physical Therapy before co-founding South Aiken Physical Therapy in 2007. A strong believer in educating his clients about their conditions, Sean seeks quick results and return to full function while still ensuring long-term benefits and good health for his patients. Since being in Aiken, and especially since 2007, Sean has almost exclusively concentrated his work experience and continuing education on the shoulder and knee joints – post-surgery, surgery prevention, fracture recovery and sports. Secondary treatment areas are the closely associated elbow and ankle injuries. Subsequently he treats a lot of rotator cuff repairs, joint replacements, fracture recovery, ligament reconstructions as well as the more common sprains and strains and overuse injuries of these areas. The most common sports for injuries seen are tennis, soccer, throwing sports, volleyball, running, swimming and gymnastics.
Education: College education at University of Queensland studying under the internationally renowned Professor Gwen Jull and Dr. Carolyn Richardson, graduating with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy in 1989.
Hobbies: When not working on his granddad skills or spending time with his dogs, Sean is usually exercising – Running, biking, swimming – or on the golf course. He still does the occasional triathlon, half marathon or marathon as a way to stay motivated and set goals.
What do you like most about being a Physical Therapist: We have a great team of Therapists and support staff at South Aiken Physical Therapy that work well together and are committed to our patients. We are spoiled by our patients who are equally committed to getting better. All this makes for a very satisfying career as we see daily the positive effect we are having on peoples lives as they free themselves from pain and resume the life they desire.
