Special credentials/ Clinical specialty:
Mary has over 27 years of experience as a licensed physical therapist and has worked in a variety of settings, including as a clinical consultant & educator. She has been trained in the works of Robin McKenzie, Brian Mulligan & Gray Cook among others. Mary has been lucky enough to formally work with the Canadian Olympic Waterski Team, as well as many high school and college athletes. In addition to sports rehab, her biggest passion is helping people remain strong and active as they age – whether as a mature athlete, a fitness enthusiast or an active senior. Although she often uses manual therapy techniques, she has specialized in functional movement & exercise, earning many hands-on specialist credentials along the way. Mary believes everyone should work towards adequate mobility, stability & strength to allow them to be capable & resilient to life’s demands. Some of the mottos she draws inspiration from are “Better is better”, “First move well, then move often”, and “Strength has a greater purpose”.
Education:
Springfield College BS/MS in Physical Therapy 1993
Hobbies:
With her daughter now safely off to college (Go Gators!), Mary enjoys time in her home gym doing kettlebell training, relaxing watching Netflix, listening to podcasts or reading. She & her husband enjoy travel, getting outside (especially in Utah) and seeking out new restaurants. A former indoor volleyball coach & beach volleyball competitor throughout Florida, she is looking forward to finding & joining a local volleyball community to continue playing in the Aiken area.
What do you like best about being a physical therapist?
I love that I can connect with people to help them understand their condition and empower them to make a positive change. Although we cannot always “fix” things 100%, we can help make a difference, allowing people to feel better and do more.
